In the guided tour of the medina of Fez, we will start with the entrance to the royal palace in the center of fez el-jadid, a magnificent Moorish gate, then we will walk through the first Jewish enclave in Morocco where there are souks, schools, synagogues and cemetery. After having a look at the entrance of the bab assamarine the entrance to the Andalousien quarter , we will head towards the panoramic view from the northern summit of the hill where the Merinid tombs are located. The medina appears as a compact and tightly woven urban fabric, enclosed within its defensive walls. the famous entrance to the medina named bab boujloud or the blue door was built in the Moorish style, a rich decorative decoration composed of geometric patterns and calligraphy. We will start our walk on Talaa kabira street, which means beautiful climbs and which is partially covered by a canopy and lined with small shops. We will begin to explore the historical sites of the medina by the Bou Inania Madrasa, considered the largest and most lavishly decorated ever built by the Merinids between 1350 and 1355 BC.
It's the only medersa in Morocco includes a minbar (pulpit) and a minaret, a mosque, a cathedral, a school for students, a residence and the oldest water clock. After crossing the souks and residential areas to explore the architecture of the medina to the carpenters market, we will visit the impressive museum of wooden objects (Fondouk el-nejjarine) with an elegant fountain, built by Moulay Ismail 1711. This three-story caravanserai provided food, rest, and shelter for luxury merchants arriving from the interior. After having a drink on the terrace of the museum, we will continue to explore the Zaouia of Moulay Idriss II, where the tomb of the second ruler Idrissed is located, considered the founder of Fez and the most revered sanctuary in Morocco. After we will walk through the five markets until we reach the Medersa El-Attarine (the Medersa of the spice sellers) was built in the 14th century and considered one of the marvels of Moorish architecture, then to explore the Karaouiyine Mosque (9th century). Considered one of the oldest and most illustrious mosques in the Western Muslim world, the first university in Morocco was founded by a religious woman from Kairouan who donated her material wealth for its construction. After having lunch in one of the restaurants in the medina or having a drink, we explore El Seffarine square, considered the most important square for silverware and cooper Smith, north of this place where the 14th century karaouyine The library was built by Sultan Abu Inan and used by the greatest Moorish scholars. Then we walk until we arrive at the oldest tannery in the world located near the river since the Middle Ages and we enjoy the best view from the terrace to the dyeing vats. After exploring fabulous weaving fabrics, we arrive at the car and drive to complete our circuit around the medina and stop at the ceramic village to explore the process of making ceramics.
